Translations

Straightforward translations can be provided for and between any of the three core languages. Additionally it can be provided for German texts to be translated into any of the three core languages. This service can be provided within the following time frame:

  • within 4 hours for texts of up to 500 words;
  • within 24 hours for texts of up to 2000 words.

For larger texts or projects, and for text translations involving Spanish as source or target language (to be carried out by a third-party), the time frame will be determined in consultation.

Localization

Localization is a translation process whereby the target text is adapted to the source text’s meaning instead of a literal word-for-word translation. To illustrate: there is a grey area between translation and localization in the case of proverbs, sayings or expressions. When they exist in identical wordings in both source and targets languages, only translationis involved. However, wordings and imageries can differ significantly, in which case a process closer to localization is involved.

Overal, localization allows for more freedom and requires more creativity; a proces that is more time-intensive and less relevant to formal and highly specialized texts such as legal or financial documents or texts rich in technical terms such as catalogues, instruction manuals, etc…

Localization is not only well-suited but even imperative in the case of texts where cutural aspects play a crucial role in the the way meaning is attributed to specific wordings or imageries: promotional or informational brochures, many types of websites, film subtitles, song lyrics, etc…

Because of the nature of localization, this service will require up-front consultation to clearly determine the intentions.

Transcreation

Transcreation is a translation process whereby the target text is not only adapted but even transformed to the point of being newly created, hence its name. In the case of idioms (and even onomatopoeia), we are a step closer to transcreation. Transcreation is clearly required in the case of (Advertising, Marketing & PR) slogans or even in the translation of subtitles for slang or street-talk that is particular to the source language.

To illustrate: a mood or feeling conveyed through text in a source language, may not necessarily have to result in the same mood or feeling, in the target language.

Cultural aspects play a pivotal role in this process. More so than with localization, transcreation is a creative process foremost, and it requires hands-on knowledge of and living insight into the cultures of both source and target language/countries.

Because of the nature of transcreation, this service will require up-front consultation to clearly determine the intentions.
