The person behind KiTL
My name is A. Kwakkenbos. I was raised in a Dutch family who travelled extensively the world over, and was schooled in French schools on three continents.
I spent my formative years growing up in (amongst others) the United States, France and the Netherlands. I owe to this type of upbringing, that I happen to have three mother tongues, namely English, French and Dutch. I call them my core languages.
During my International Business studies (Maastricht University, Université de Liège, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen), I have followed curricula and written research papers and theses in each of these languages.
By the time I started with KiTL, I had 20+ years of professional (International Sales & Marketing) experience in all three languages, with colleagues, customers, suppliers or other relations in many countries on all continents including the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands.
I hold no degree in translation nor am I a certified translator. However, I did not learn any of the three core languages as an adult (rather growing up) and I have a particular appreciation of language in general. As a native speaker and thanks to my background, I have extensive personal and professional hands-on experiences with each of the three core languages, and also with the respective countries and cultures they are tied to. This has put me in the unique position to offer reliable and culturally-sensitive translation services for a number of years.
Translation experiences
Over the years, opportunities to translate arose both within and outside the scope of my personal work environment. Starting out, I translated legal letters for friends, informative and promotional flyers for non-profit organizations but also catalogs, instruction manuals, websites and contracts/legal documents for my employers.
I have created websites and webshops in each of these languages as hobby or as part of past side projects.
